Item ESTERÓIDES ANABOLIZANTES E PERFORMANCE NO BODYBUILDING(UNIFEV, 2024-12-04) NÍCOLLAS DE FREITAS SANTOSThe human body is constantly changing, and the quest for strength dates back to ancient times. With technological advances, the use of synthetic testosterone and other anabolic steroids has become a common practice to increase muscle mass and strength, especially in bodybuilding. This study explores the differences in muscle hypertrophy between anabolic users and natural weightlifters, highlighting that the former gain weight and muscle mass more quickly, but develop resistance to drugs. In natural competitions, where the use of anabolic steroids is banned, the number of athletes is growing rapidly. The study also warns of the potentially fatal consequences of continuous use of anabolic steroids. The research was based on a literature review and investigated how muscle hypertrophy develops differently in the two groups. Factors such as mTOR, an essential protein in cell growth, and myostatin, which inhibits muscle growth, were analyzed. Anabolic steroids directly affect these mechanisms, increasing protein synthesis and nutrient uptake, but even with the use of steroids, there is a physiological limit to muscle growth. Resistance training, common to both groups, causes changes in both the nervous system and the muscles. At first, strength gains are more related to neural adaptation, and visible hypertrophy occurs after a few weeks of regular practice. The study concluded that strength training, whether with or without anabolic steroids, affects mTOR and myostatin, promoting muscle growth in both groups.
